Winstones Ice Cream: Interview with the Family

Recorded in 2015.

Winstones Ice Cream, founded in 1928, is still run as a family business from its shop and production site on Rodborough Common. Three generations of the Winstone/Vear family speak candidly about the company’s past, present, and future.

They describe how the business was founded, how it nearly collapsed, and how it was rescued and stabilised by current Managing Director Jane Vear.

Production Director Colin Vear explains the challenges of producing ice cream on a small industrial scale, while sons Ben and Tom discuss their ambitions for expanding into corporate and restaurant markets.

Stroud’s in Business, broadcast every Friday at 1.00pm with a repeat on Wednesday at 4.00pm on Stroud FM 107.9, is a Terry Mechan Production for Stroud FM.
