Radio Documentary on Stroud Brewery

Recorded in 2015.

Stroud Brewery is a micro‑brewery founded by Greg Pilley, operating out of a small industrial estate in Thrupp, Gloucestershire. Continuing a long heritage (the original Stroud Brewery was founded in 1770), Greg explains how he secured the funding to launch the new brewery.

He shares his views on creating community‑based pubs, which he believes offer a more independent and secure future than the large Pub‑Co chains.

Pip Scrivens talks about female brewers (Brewsters), while brewer Ian French describes the “magic” of his brewing process. Using organic hops and malt from local suppliers, Ian reveals some—but not all—of his brewing secrets.

Finally, we visit The Crown and Sceptre, where landlord Rodda Thomas discusses the challenges and pleasures of running a successful community‑focused pub.
